Don Knotts
Don Knotts was born in Morgantown on July 21, 1924. After he
graduated from his high school, he went to New York, where he auditioned for a comedian for some local radio shows. Then when
he got turned down by the radio shows, he returned to West Virginia and enrolled as a speech major at West Virginia University.
When he was in college, they got involved in WWII. Don joined
the army and became part of an entertainment group. He toured for two years throughout the southwest Pacific in a show called
"Stars and Gripes." After the war, Knotts returned to West Virginia University to complete his degree.
When he graduated, he went back to NY and performed in radio
shows, one of them was a continuing soap opera called "Search for Tomorrow."
Afterwards he became a regular on TV on the Garry Moore and Steve
Allen shows. His most famous role was Barney Fife on the "Andy Griffith Show."
